day three hundred thirteen & a basic knit hat pattern

Cooler weather makes me want to knit, like, everyday.
After searching and searching and searching to find the perfect basic hat pattern
(I always want to call this a recipe)
with no luck, I decided to just make my own.
Here it is, in case you want to make one too!
It's super simple and quick, soft and cozy.
It can be customized with different stitches
(pictured, a knitted hat with ribbing on the bottom, a garter stitch hat)
make it striped! put a pom pom on top! copy one you saw at Anthropologie, you sneaky lady!

what you need:
- 1 skien of super bulky yarn (like Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick)
- size US 13 circular needles and/or double pointed needles (I used 16" circular needles for the main part of the hat, and dpns for the decrease)
- tapestry needle

abbreviations: k - knit, k2tog - knit two together, ssk - slip slip knit

sizes: baby(child)(fitted adult)(slouchy adult)

what to do:

Using long tail method, cast on 32(36)(40)(48) and join for knitting in the round.
knit until your hat is ~1.5" shorter than you want the finished hat to be.
I like 6"(6.5")(7")(7.5")

decrease:

for the child size hat only!
- *k2, k2tog, k5* repeat until end of round
- knit one round
start decrease here for baby & adult sized hats -
(this is where I normally switch to double-pointed needles)
- *k2, k2tog, k4* repeat until end of round
- knit
- *k1, ssk, k4* repeat
- knit
- *ssk, k2tog, k2* repeat
- *ssk, k2tog* repeat
- *k2tog* repeat
cut yarn, thread through remaining stitches on needles and weave in ends.
